Root canal treatment (RCT)
Rotary endodontics with digital apex location.
We use rotary instrumentation (Protaper Gold) and digital apex location (Morita Tri Auto). Most RCTs are completed in a single visit, two visits if there is active infection requiring a calcium-hydroxide intracanal dressing. Post-RCT crowning is strongly recommended on molars within 8 weeks — we will factor this into your plan and pricing upfront.
Some tenderness when biting is normal for 3–5 days after an RCT — the surrounding tissue is inflamed and takes a few days to settle. Paracetamol or ibuprofen as needed.
Do not eat anything hard on the treated tooth until the final filling or crown is placed. If you were given a temporary filling at the end of your RCT, it is designed to last 2–4 weeks only — book the crown promptly.
A crown is strongly recommended for molar RCTs within 8 weeks. RCT-treated molars without a crown have a 5-year survival of around 60%, vs. >95% with a crown.
- Severe pain that is worsening (not improving) over 3-5 days
- Swelling of the face or gum that develops after the RCT
- The temporary filling completely falls out — call us within 24 hours
